The SAIT Trojans men’s basketball team won their fifth consecutive title in a narrow 91-88 decision over the Keyano College Huskies at SAIT’s gymnasium on Saturday, March 12, 2022.

SAIT won theit fifth championship in-a-row, with the other four were won before the COVID-19 pandemic took place.

The SAIT Trojans men’s basketball team had a tough season, because in October 2021, former Trojan John Smith was killed while defending his friend outside a nightclub.

Smith’s first year at SAIT was the ACAC 2016-17 season, which was the first of their now five championships in-a-row. When John Smith joined the Trojans, he created a myth, and the Trojans have not lost since.

Charlie Connor, the captain of the Trojans who was brought to SAIT by Smith, found the loss of Smith very challenging. After winning their fifth championship, Connor congratulated and mourned Smith with many of his teammates.

With their fifth championship under their belt, the SAIT Trojans men’s basketball team are fiercer than ever.
